Edwin F. Woodard was a Union soldier during the American Civil War. In January of 1862, he first enlisted into the 9th Michigan infantry. Shortly thereafter, he was discharged as his superiors thought he was too small to fight. Within a few short hours he enlisted into the 22nd Illinois Regiment as a drummer boy. After the war, he moved to Fowlerville with his wife and then in 1905 he moved to South Lyon. He would live there for the rest of his life until he passed in 1940 at 94 years of age.
Do you remember the Havershaw Hospital once located on the northwest corner of Detroit and Pettibone Streets in downtown South Lyon? Reynold Sweet (the South Lyon downtown bypass is named for him) was the grandson of the Havershaws. Gerald Sweet, the son of Reynold Sweet, would like to know how many individuals are still around who were born at the Havershaw Hospital. If this is you, or someone you currently know, we would appreciate your identification by sending the SLAHS an email at: southlyonahs@gmail.com. We will pass your email along to Gerald Sweet so that he may communicate with you. Thank you!
